Greetings fellow fondlers of things recently deceased. Word has reached my pointy blue ears of something strange brewing over at SOE, and no I don't mean Cylus's Spiced Berry Tea! It seems that SOE has worked an arrangement that would let them create a new fantasy based MMO game off of a Comic Series called Ramayan 3392 A.D.
I know, I know... who cares Lifebane! It's just another MMO game! I agree on that point and the dark ones know all too well how flooded the MMO market is right now and will continue to be in the near future. So the question arises, who needs yet another MMO to muddy up the waters?
Variety is the word that comes to mind when I try to answer that question. Something new even. This game is not based on the traditional fantasy genre.. aka elves, dwarves, orcs, etc. (aka Middle Earth). This game is based upon Indian Mythos and culture, definitely not something that we have had offered to us before. EQ, EQ2, Horizons, WOW, MEO, VG.... different game engines, same basic concept so far as the world you play in goes. How many more drunken dwarves or haugty high elves must you suffer before you scream "gimme something different!" Maybe this is the "something different" we have been waiting for!??!
How will it work? What will be so appealing? Will it well.. suck? Can SOE pull this off or will it flop horribly? It is really too early to know but the fact they are steering clear of the commonplace fantasy mmo is at least a refreshing change and will merit being watched as it develops.

SOE teams up with Virgin Comics to bring Ramayan 3392 A.D. to the MMO world!

It was announced this morning, that SOE is joining forces with Virgin Comics to create an MMO based off of the widely popular India-based comic book, Ramayan 3392 A.D.

For those of you unfamiliar with the title, Ramayan is based on Indian lore. It's the hope of everyone involved, that with the development of this new title, that gamers will have the opportunity to experience themes of one of the oldest cultures on Earth.

Breaking away from the traditional Tolkien-like MMO molds, Ramayan will infuse aspects of Indian culture such as duty, sacrifice, and karma, into the online world.

The new union plans on developing the game in India, drawing on the creative talent of those individuals who created the original comic.

so long story short vanguard is out the window for SOE's advertising budget to draw people back to vanguard?

Eh going to be interesting to see what an indian based SOE development teams turns out.

Overall its nothing greatly new, there will still probably be a hot looking face covered boob laiden maiden race, a gruty salt mine slave race, and human slave masters.

Uhm.... Indian developers are great ones.. technically speaking...
Personally i don't like indian lore too much... and I think they will make it the 'oriental way'... we'll see.

I agree with keeper... different graphic style but same style of characters..

I think the success in this games is how much you can feel the world around you.

I'd actually rather see a game based on greek mythology before indian haha weapons and tactics were probly more interesting during that time
